How we work

Our approach

Geographical Focus
The Foundation is active in the countries where Royal Van Leeuwen has a presence. We approach the partners and projects ourselves.

Project Selection
When choosing projects, our focus is on educational initiatives that support people in disadvantaged positions and underserved situations. Projects may involve formal education at educational institutions or informal education. They include initiatives to facilitate:

  • Training
  • Coaching (including in the workplace)
  • Self-study
  • Relevant work experience

Partner Engagement
We proactively approach appropriate charitable foundations, programs, and projects. Our professional partners are international or local charities that initiate and/or fund projects aligned with our objectives and have relevant experience. We work with a diverse mix of partners, including NGOs, foundations and social enterprises. We seek a diverse mix of partners in the different fields that vary in size and scope, from international to local, small to large, and emerging to established organisations.

Grant Issuance and Monitoring
Before awarding a grant, we ensure we have sufficient information about the organization, the program, and how the funds will be used. During the duration of the project, we monitor and evaluate the progress of the project by means of:

  • Reports
  • Interviews
  • Project visits

The results of monitoring and evaluation provide valuable lessons that are used to increase our impact.

Guiding Principles
We are guided by the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 4, aimed at "quality education, ensuring equal access to quality education and promoting lifelong learning for everyone".
